Jules Massenet's elegiac aria, "Pleurez ! Pleurez, mes yeux !" ("Weep! Weep, my eyes!") from his 1885 opera Le Cid, is here arranged for soprano, solo clarinet in A, and wind ensemble. The aria opens the emotional third act, in which the lead soprano, Chimène, laments the death of her father at the hands of her lover. The aria features an extended lyric clarinet solo.
