The first motive is introduced right at the start after which it enters into a series of developmental variations. The second motive takes the foreground only once, briefly, in the first movement but becomes the main melody in the third movement. At the end of the piece you will see both motives fighting back and forth in staggered entrances eventually spinning seemingly out of control to a climactic finish.
