Shepherds, Shake Off Your Drowsy Sleep was the title of a French Carol celebrating the arrival of Christ. The hymn tune is named BESANÇON for the area of France where it originated. Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965) set her poem People Look East to this melody. It was published in 1928 in The Oxford Book of Carols. It is now both an Advent Hymn and Christmas Carol.
