Composed by Judith L. Maggs. 20th Century,Instructional. Score. 25 pages. Maggs #5888039. Published by Maggs (A0.821259).The collection is a continuation of a concept I came up with several years ago in an attempt to get my piano students to think rather than just play mindlessly. The pieces are all at an intermediate level - mostly quite easy technically. The challenge is in doing some unexpected things. Some are just for fun, but others cover some very useful skills that they don’t normally get to attempt at an intermediate level.
In this collection, I have 8 pieces. "Two’s Company" uses only 2 fingers on each hand. "Bar None" has a regular beat, but no time signature or bar lines. "What’s My Ledger Line" uses only one staff, but depends on ledger lines to cover the missing staff. "Fancy Footwork" uses all 3 pedals.
This is a great little collection of pieces to challenge intermediate students of all ages and inspire them to try new things. If you’d like to check out the original "Outside the Box" collection, you can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20130532
