By The Moody Blues. By Justin Hayward. Arranged by James-Michael Sellers. Rock. 19 pages. JMS Composer #3619249. Published by JMS Composer (A0.749398).

Performance Notes:
Justin Hayward, who joined The Moody Blues the year prior, wrote "Nights in White Satin" after receiving a set of white stain sheets as a gift. To him, it's a series of random thoughts while still being autobiographical as he was in the midst of moving between relationships.

Rehearsal Notes:
A relaxed tempo fits well here. No tempo marking is given on purpose, because I didn't want a specific speed to the piece to be locked in. The songwriter (Hayward) feels like it is "the listeners who bring the magic and the interpretations to these songs" (taken from a 2016 Songfacts interview).

The melody is mostly given to the Alto Flute. Use this to your flute choir's advantage if you have an Alto Flute, allowing your player full freedom to bring the expressive nature of the melody out. At [29], the melody moves to Flute 1, but the Alto Flute still stays important with the flowing sixteenth notes. Those should be brought out just a tiny bit less than the melody.

Instrumentation:
This arrangement of "Nights in White Satin" is scored for an instrumentation of five parts: 3 C Flutes, Alto Flute (with a C Flute transposed part included), and Bass Flute.
