Published by Brendan Collins (A0.797643).Mugungwha Train was commissioned as a wind band work for the APAC Band Festival in South Korea 2017. The brief was that the new work should reflect aspects of Korean society, culture, music etc. so after much deliberation I decided to give the work a modern setting and base it on the Mugungwha Train. This particular train travels through many regions of the country and gave me great scope to present the varying landscapes while always having the constant rumble of the train journey. As it turned out, my wife Philippa Collins, a fine violinist in her own right, on hearing the piece for the first time said 'that would make a great piece for violin'. The rest is history!!
