Mudflap Icicles was inspired by an episode that Hase recalled from his childhood regarding a specific juvenile prank. During a cold Wisconsin winter he was dared by an older cousin to lick an icicle that had formed on the mudflap of one of his father's large work trucks. He was told that even though it was colored brown it would taste just like any other icicle. Only a boy at the time, Hase fell for the prank. He never forgot the dirty gritty taste that met his lips nor the laughter of all who witnessed the scheme. Nevertheless, he still smiles each winter at the sight of the first mudflap icicle.
