It was unsuccessful with that instrumentation because of the sustained notes, so the composer withdrew that version and transcribed it for string sextet. The musical language is atonal, and the musical style is intentionally fragmented. This piece is subtitled From a Prison. It sounds like a prisoner is trapped, wants out, and is banging on the bars of his or her cell.
