The rules of strict counterpoint can be applied to produce the most interesting music, but each melodic line must carefully be considered in the complete composition which will create the most harmonically pleasing effect. Both melodic lines must create a harmonic relationship between their respective lowest and highest notes in accordance with the natural order of consonances, and imitation should occur at an euphonious conclusion to provide completely developed movements; there should also be a single high point in the composition that is well-contemplated throughout the thematic development in the melody line. The omission of the subdominant in a major key will eliminate the possibility of a tritone interval which will only allow perfect intervals that produce the greatest harmony in music.
