Missa sanctorum angelorum (Mass of the Holy Angels) sets the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei for choir, soloists and congregation. The congregation is invited to participate in simple Latin refrains, with the choir and soloists singing verses between. It is a creative way to introduce the congregation to a Latin Mass setting, without requiring them to learn a great deal of Latin. While the refrains are simple and the choral harmonies are straightforward, Mr. Shenk has a means of drawing all (amateur singers and professional choristers) into the beauty of singing together in the official language of the Roman Rite.
