A happy, upbeat tune from South African jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, arranged for standard brass quintet.
The standard required is intermediate, approximately grades 4-6.
Ranges (written pitch):
C4 = middle C
Trumpet in Bb 1: E4 to B5 (one optional C6)
Trumpet in Bb 2: C4 to F5
Horn in F: G3 to D5 (one optional F5)
Trombone/Euphonium: G2 to C4
Bass Trombone/Tuba: F1 to G3
All parts contain a mix of melodic and accompanimental material. The bass trombone/tuba part often carries a bass line, but also contains melodic material. There are brief solo moments, especially for the horn and bass trombone/tuba. All parts contain quite a bit of syncopation, so this arrangement is a great way to get your students to develop their sense of pulse in a fun way. The music is mostly diatonic but with occasional hints of chromaticism and jazz harmony to add some flavour.
The arrangement last approximately 3 minutes, but can be shortened to about 2m30s by taking the optional cut to letter G as marked.

James Brady is an award-winning composer, arranger and brass player from the UK with an MA (Hons) in Music from the University of Cambridge, an MMus in Jazz Trumpet Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and a PGCert in Performance Teaching, also from the Guildhal. As well as working with organisations including the Royal Opera House, London Chamber Orchestra and the Sage Gateshead, his compositions and arrangements have been performed by the likes of Kate Nash and the Wilderness Orchestra, award-winning jazz vocalist Liane Carroll and the Guildhall Jazz Band. He was the recipient of the 2018 Eddie Harvey Award for Jazz Arranging.
