One of Meredith Willson's most popular songs (along with It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas), this jaunty tune is the best-loved piece from his 1957 musical The Music Man. This arrangement is for 3 tenor trombones or 2 tenor and 1 bass trombone or tuba. It can also be performed by groups including euphoniums or any bass clef brass.

The key of Bb, modulating to Eb, has been chosen to suit beginner students. This is a tone below the original cast recording. Ranges are modest, with the 1st part only reaching F above middle C, the 2nd part Bb below middle C and the 3rd part F below middle C. The 3rd part does include two optional 7th position low Es, which can be substituted for 6th position Cs when necessary. The 3rd part requires several low 6th position Fs so would be ideal for a bass trombone, euphonium or tuba player, if available, but can be played on tenor trombone with a bit of puff! The middle part contains the most chromatic motion so would be well-suited to a student in search of more challenge.

This arrangement lasts approximately 1m20s at the marked tempo, but can equally be played a little slower.

Although written for trombones, this trio would be suitable for many configurations of non-transposing bass clef instruments including bassoons and cellos.
