The Magnificat super Ecce Maria et Sydus ex claro by Michael Praetorius is one of fourteen Magnificat settings included in the Megalynodia Sionia (1611). Its somewhat cumbersome title is explained by the fact that the five-part settings are "parodies" (rearrangements) of sections of two motets by Orlando di Lasso, "Ecce Maria" and "Sydus ex claro." This Magnificat is a "troped setting", that is, the Latin canticle is interspersed with German Christmas songs, a common practice of the time. English latin, and German texts.
