Composed by Shuhei Tamura. Brass. Ensemble. Score & parts. Duration 4:30. Bravo Music #ENMS-84361. Published by Bravo Music (BZ.ENMS-84361).

Commissioned by Kazuhiko Tsuchiya of Tamagawa Academy and premiered in 2012. The ensemble won gold prize at the 36th Tokyo Ensemble Finals. The term "Logos" originally signifies "words" and "reason" in Greek; however, it encompasses all human rational activities. For instance, all human expressions like "consider" and "think" fall under the umbrella of logos. It's a highly ambiguous word with various interpretations, even extending to cosmic realms. This piece represents the conflict of eight players' logos: personalities, thoughts, assertions, and opinions. All strive for a common purpose. It also illustrates how we harmonize and move in unison. Throughout the piece, the music alternates between individuals or two groups, depicting their struggles, harmonization, and unresolved conflicts. E is filled with each player's assertions but the conflicts return to the "start" in G. As they seek compromise, they perform a harmonious choral passage in J. Nevertheless, the conflicts remain unsolved in K. This continuous clash of energy propels them forward into the future. The fact that there are as many logos as there are individuals, and they never achieve perfect harmony underlines the significance of coexistence. The "Logos conflict" is unavoidable, but it also brings life's joy and the pleasure of encountering numerous individuals. We possess unlimited possibilities through innumerable logos conflicts of fellows and others and harmonizing with them. In this way, we shape history. (Shuhei Tamura).
