Nach und nach entstand ein Lied, welches vor allem für eine Trauerfeier geeignet ist.
Es behandelt die Schere zwischen der natürlichen Trauer, wenn ein naher Mensch heimgeht, und der Freude, dass er daheim ist und es dort besser hat. In der dritten Strophe wirft es die Frage auf, ob der Zuhörer sich selbst auf dem Weg zu dieser besseren Heimat befindet.
Die Klavierbegleitung ist absichtlich einfach gestaltet, so dass Menschen wie ich, die keine Klavierausbildung haben, es begleiten und gleichzeitig singen können.
