Chavela Vargas appeared in the 2002 movie Frida, Frida, about Federico Garcia Lorca, singing the ominous La Llorona,The Crier, in a hoarse yet haunting voice. Chavela Vargas was a friend and a frequent house-guest of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and was close to Spanish author Federico Garcia Lorca.
The song also appeared in the popular movie/cartoon Coco.
