Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Concert,Graduation,Romantic Period,Sacred,Wedding. Score. 3 pages. Phil Beaman #6104761. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.845049).
L'Hymne du Pape was written in 1864 by the great Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. It was written in honor of Pope Pius IX who was the Pope at that time. Liszt himself was then living in a monastery outside of Rome and had recently take Orders. For about 10 years he was in the religious phase of his life where he wrote sacred music. This piece was written for piano solo, but Liszt liked it so much that he did a version for pipe organ and soon thereafter a version for piano duet and then for chorus and orchestra. Each time Liszt re-wrote this piece he made it bigger with thicker chords. I have done the opposite. In my arrangement I have simplified his chords down to 2-part writing for a piano solo with just one note at a time in each hand. I have tried to emphasize the dignity and grandeur of the piece. This makes a great processional, whether for wedding, graduation, or formal religious service. Also perfect for student recitals.
3:35 minutes (with an optional D.S. which would create a 7 minute piece)
3 page score
