Versuche einer Übersetzung - "Die harmonische Inspiration" oder auch "Die musikalische (Gefühlsauf-)Wallung" - geben nicht annähernd die Mischung aus Fantasie und Eindringlichkeit wieder, die Estienne Roger, den wohl cleversten Verleger des 18. Jahrhunderts, dazu veranlassten, Vivaldis Opus 3 in Druck zu nehmen. Die 1711 veröffentlichte Sammlung von 12 Konzerten ist mit System konzipiert: Vier Dreiergruppen bestehen jeweils aus einem Konzert für vier Violinen, einem Violindoppel- sowie einem Solokonzert. Nach dem Prinzip der paarweisen Tonartenanlage folgt jedem Konzert in Dur eines in Moll. Mit L’estro armonico machte sich Vivaldi in ganz Europa einen Namen und übte tief greifenden Einfluss auf die Werke späterer Komponisten aus, u. a. auf J. S. Bach.
