With its toe-tapping accompaniment and its body percussion bridge, this Johnson Boys setting recalls the musical humor characteristic of many American mountain songs. Students will enjoy the text and rhythmic vitality of each vocal line. The countermelodies have tessituras, texts, and contours that contrast with the melody, thereby making this an excellent early part-singing piece. When available, a string bass, acoustic guitar, harmonica, or washboard would enhance the piano accompaniment and contribute to the "down home" good feeling of this setting.
