Invention No. 1, for solo piano
by J. Andrés Ballesteros (2005, ed. 2008; ASCAP)

This short (1m 20s) piano piece is appropriate for early intermediate students looking for a brief, technical piece in the vein of Bach's 2-part inventions, a Baroque-inspired piece with a contemporary twist.

"Invention No. 1" came about after studying and playing many of J. S. Bach's two-part inventions and is one of the earlier pieces I wrote. It received an Honorable Mention at the Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition in 2005 and the revised version was named a Regional Winner of the Music Educators National Convention Talent Search in 2008.
