This edition: pdf, streaming. Classical, Contemporary. 110 pages. Fabio Bertorelle #1113723. Published by Fabio Bertorelle (A0.1541030).
This is a collection of five short pieces for string orchestra and piano, entitled "interludes of life", lasting a total of about ten minutes. Each song tries to describe a moment, a feeling or a context that can occur in the life of each person.
The first song is entitled "photographs of the past and thinkings on the future". It is a song that begins in A minor, the harmonic and rhythmic progression wants to recall a nostalgic, melancholic sense, which is what normally happens a little when you look at old family photographs and of more distant times. Positivity about the present and confidence in the future must however take over nostalgia, the song switches to A major precisely to exalt this confidence, to end in a decisive and confident way.
The second song is entitled "children running around the house". It is in C major and has a very simple harmony. The rhythm is playful and the theme is light and lively. It describes the children running around the house, which however very often leads to a tumble, a stumble or something else, which triggers an instantaneous flood of tears that lasts just long enough to understand that nothing has happened. And everything slowly starts again from the beginning...
The third piece is called "wind in the trees" and is in D minor. After a brief introduction that aims to describe the somewhat chaotic and irregular movement of the wind, we move on to the moment in which it flows fluidly and uniformly among the branches of the trees. The piano exposes the theme and at the same time the cello follows it with a counter-theme with irregular rhythms, to indicate that the irregularity of the movement of the wind never ceases. Once the piano's exposition is over, the first violins resume the theme just exposed, with the accompaniment of the orchestra and in a very heartfelt way. It all ends slowly with the reprise of the first bars of the cello's counter-theme, and everything ends as it began, with the wind dying in the trees.
The fourth piece is called "a church in the countryside". It is in A major and opens with the sound of bells spreading across the countryside. It is made up of a series of short, simple themes in which the sound of the bell is occasionally interposed. The piece aims to enhance the sensations that best express the scene of a church in the countryside, namely serenity, tranquility and peace.
The last piece is called "at the end of the woods... the horizon" and is in D major. It begins very slowly and a little darkly, describing the progress inside the woods, perhaps a little difficult because it is off the path, because you want to reach an objective even if it is a little out of the way. In this first part the theme is exposed in fragments by the cello and the piano. At a certain point a part begins with very fast and repeated notes with a crescendo dynamic, this to describe that the woods is thinning out and we have almost reached our destination, to then explode with a forte and the beginning of the theme. This is meant to describe an immense panorama, the horizon, which opens up once we leave the woods. The theme is repeated twice, after which the rhythm changes. All the strings move to a syncopated rhythm to give space to a very short second theme of the cello which immediately flows into a series of chords that lead to an imposing and proud closure of the majesty of what we are admiring at that moment, the immensity of the horizon.
