"Impromptu No. 3 for Trombone and Piano" is the third in a set of one-movement solo trombone works from American composer P. F. Strohm, written in a manner suggestive of improvisation and showcasing different musical styles. These impromptus emphasize tone, technique and musicality for both performers. They are outstanding works for contest, concert or recital, either individually or as a set. The third impromptu engages both instruments in a relentless, mechanical, prestissimo rondo. Musically there is always only one direction allowed, that is foward. There is a moment near the mid-point reminiscent of a brief pause to look up and confirm the path, but then it is back to the machine-like prestissimo all the way to completion. Difficulty level is medium-advanced. Performance time is 4:25. Member, ASCAP.
