The first five of these impromptus are intended for skilled players, requiring great tone, technique and musicality from both performers. They are outstanding works for contest, concert or recital, either individually or as a set. In the first impromptu, the cello sails over a rolling, arpeggiated piano, with the piece alternating between a stormy, driving primary theme and a calm, floating secondary restatement. In the end, calm prevails with a lovely, gradual resolution. Difficulty level is medium-advanced. Performance time is 5:35. Member, ASCAP.
