The lyrics of the four hymns in “Heaven Medley” ring with eagerness for that blessed place. Using a popular fiddle tune “Turkey in the Rye” as its recurrent binding material, this piano trio is lively as well as anticipatory. The first hymn is bouncy with light staccatos. The second one is full, reminiscent of a pipe organ and congregational singing. A distinct change of mood, the third song is accompanied by high arpeggios. Finally, the melody of the last hymn is interrupted by the fiddle tune before a sweet, flowing chorus – with a surprise ending!
Included in the download file is the full score and performance notes with lyrics. The three parts are graded with a group of students in mind. The secundo is easy, the primo and tertio are similar in difficulty (intermediate) with the primo being slightly easier. Permission for 3 copies of the PDF is granted, as long as the second and third copies are used for home rehearsal only.
