In hEarItAbility, students at any level can pursue the art of playing by ear and developing better aural skills. The book is designed to have appeal to any age group and provides focused parameters for reproducing melodies at the keyboard. The book primarily uses folk literature with the inclusion of Christmas songs, popular music and easy classics. Students using hEarItAbility have gained a wonderful awareness of patterns, familiarity with a variety of keys (transposition), facility playing with white and black notes, increased coordination, improved pitch matching and heightened musicianship. Their musical instincts have improved as well as their ability for memorization and melodic playbacks. And most importantly, it’s fun and rewarding! In Volume One, students progress from three-pitch pieces to the 8 pitches of "Happy Birthday". Students are exposed to the concepts of major and minor, bass notes, rhythm (quarter, eighth and rests), pentascales, patterns/form and playing in all keys. Accompanying worksheets provide the framework for letter recognition, written rhythm and pitch notation. 1/2" round color coding labels can be used as notehead stickers.
