Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1267996).Arlecchino is a character in the Italian Commedia dell'Arte (Comedy of professions). He represents pantomime and clowning. The name Harlequin is taken from that of a mischievous "devil" or "demon" character in popular French passion plays, but he has clearly developed this lighter side, which I am illustrating here, (as well as the much darker side of the Erlkönig whose related name comes from the more demonic character).
