Grieg, Wedding Day at Troldhaugen for Bassoon Quartet

One of Grieg's most charming works, Wedding Day at Troldhaugen is the 6th 'Lyric Piece' for solo piano from his Opus 65.

Originally called "Gratulanterne kommer" ("The well-wishers are coming"), it was written in 1896 as a memorial of the 25th wedding anniversary of Grieg and his wife Nina.

This piece in in a sprightly D major and evokes celebration and joy. The calm middle section is reflective and melancholic. This version for bassoon quartet was written during lockdown as a tribute to those who have had to postpone their own weddings during the global crisis. I hope you enjoy playing this fantastic work!

Duration: 7 mins approx.

Arranged for Genovia Quartet by Gillian Horn, 2020.
