Greek folk music is characterised by the sound of the ‘buzuki’ which is often used in combination with the clarinet, the mandolin, the violin and various types of tambourines. In Greek Folk Song Suite, Franco Cesarini has elaborated on three songs belonging to this most ancient tradition. The first, O Haralambis, is in 7/8 time, a characteristic of a popular folk dance called kalamatianos. Originally, the song O Haralambis was sung to ‘tease’ during weddings with the text of the song refering to a young man who refuses to marry. The second movement, Stu Psiloriti, refers to an ancient song from the island of Crete. The third movement of the suite is based on the songVasilikos tha gino and is characterised by the sirtaki, probably the most popular Greek dance outside of Greece. This is Greek passion portrayed by a concert band!

Die Greek Folk Song Suite basiert auf vier Volksliedern und -tänzen aus dem alten Griechenland. Dieses Stück überliefert und bewahrt uralte Traditionen aufs Schönste und entführt zugleich Musiker und Publikum auf eine unvergessliche Reise in das Land von Sonne, Wein und Sirtaki. Reisen Sie mit!

La clarinette, la mandoline, le violon, les tambourins, tambours de basque et le célèbre bouzouki sont les instruments typiques de la musique traditionnelle grecque. Le répertoire de cette musique est partagé en trois catégories principales : les chants traditionnels grecs (le dimotiko), les chants traditionnels des immigrants (le rebetiko) et les chants de compositeurs du XXe siècle. La musique grecque moderne a été rendue célèbre par Mikis Theodorakis, compositeur de renom qui, parallèlement ses engagements politiques contre le régime fasciste, a contribué, travers ses mélodies, la diffusion des textes de grands poètes grecs modernes. Dans cette suite, FrancoCesarini a rassemblé trois chansons appartenant la tradition musicale ancienne. La première, O Haralambis, est une chanson typique accompagnant le kalamatianos, une danse traditionnelle circulaire en 7/8. Satirique et taquine, O Haralambis est interprétée l’occasion de mariages. Elle relate l’histoire d’un jeune homme qui refuse d’être marié. Le passage central développe un autre air traditionnel intitulé I Voskopula. Le deuxième mouvement, Stu Psiloriti, fait référence une ancienne mélodie de l’île de Crète. Le Psiloritis est le point culminant du mont Ida. Le troisième mouvement de la suite est basé sur le chant Vasilikos tha gino, un chant très ancien de la région de l’Épire. Certains éléments de ce mouvement nous rappellent le sirtaki, la plus célèbre de toutes les danses grecques.

Nella sua Greek Folk Song Suite Franco Cesarini ha elaborato tre canti appartenenti alla più antica tradizione greca: O Haralambis è una canzone tipica del Kalamatianos, una diffusa danza popolare a sette tempi. Stu Psiloriti, fa riferimento ad un’antica melodia dell’isola di Creta. Il terzo movimento della suite si basa sul canto Vasilikos tha gino, un antichissimo canto della regione dell’Ipeiros. Alcune caratteristiche di questo tempo ricordano la danza popolare greca più conosciuta all’estero: il sirtaki.
