This bright, cheerful piece portrays a visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house and eating some of Grandpa’s famous griddlecakes. The melody, reminiscent of early Americana, trades back and forth between the woodwinds and high brass while the low brass, woodwinds, and percussion keep that good ole country two-beat a goin’! Using only 6 notes, this work is good teaching tool for dynamic shading (it runs the gamut from p to ff) as well as keeping a good steady offbeat (2 & 4) going without turning the beat around. Key of Eb. Beginning Band Series Level 1.5-2.
