Got the Blues contains pieces and elements developed by generations of blues and boogie-woogie players. It starts with very simple examples and develops all elements of the piano texture. The music examples in this book will help you to build complete system of playing Blues for any situation. T

Blues is unique in the history of American music. The roots of most styles of today's commercial music come from Blues. At the same time Blues also stands as a very distinct style of music, and it has a history of its own. Blues is a result of the blending of two cultures- European and African. The piano tradition of playing Blues comes from Boogie-woogie, which was one of the leading popular piano styles.

The main rhythmical block for playing Blues and Boogie is swinging eight notes. The written dotted eighth and sixteenth are actually equal to an eight-note triplet with the first two notes tied together. This means when there is a triplet in the Right Hand and a written dotted eighth and sixteenth in the Left Hand- their first and last notes should be played together.

The building blocks for playing Boogie or Blues on the Piano are riffs. A riff is a repeated figure, usually one or two bars long. Most of musical examples in this book are riffs. Each musical example should be practiced until it is played extremely well. All of the Variations in this book can be combined and should be looked upon as a starting point to develop more original Variations and Blocks.

A very unique characteristic of Blues is called Groove. It is created by moving the accents from the strong beats to the weak beats. This allows the Blues to be creative and musical rather than mechanical and repetitive.

Blues Piano is one of the most Popular Styles in Commercial Music Today. It brings different musicians together and gives them a common language.
