By Christina Rossetti. By Matthew Spinner. A Cappella,Christmas. Octavo. 8 pages. Matthew Spinner #6561067. Published by Matthew Spinner (A0.928723).

The poem Give Me Holly was originally published by Christina Rossetti in her 1872 collection Sing-Song: A Nursery Rhyme Book. Matthew Spinner's musical setting follows the theme of each of the four verses, as the poet describes unfriendly, dangerous and melancholy plants before finally celebrating the many virtues of holly. Rossetti wants some holly for the day when she "makes merry", which is, perhaps, a reference to Christmas Day. The work is for unaccompanied SATB choir with no divisi. It would suit a Christmas- or winter-themed programme. Running time 2:30. Rehearsal piano part included.
