A choir favorite, Gather the Stars is a setting of the Carl Sandburg poem Stars, Songs, Faces. My favorite aspect of Carl Sandburg's poetry is that he captures profound thoughts with simple language and direct language. It is a composer's dream. We spend our whole lives chasing our dreams, only to one day "let go and say goodbye." Similarly, the piece spends two minutes gathering stars, songs, and faces, gaining momentum...until everything fades again into a beautiful background of stars. Thank you to the 2009 PMEA Region V Choir and Dr. Christopher Kiver for this beautiful performance.
