Hanus's piano trio, Frescos for Violin, Cello and Orchestra, written in 1961, ranks among the stable and favoured opuses in the repertoires of both Czech and foreign ensembles. The trio is comprised of four movements with a Classical formal scheme; the title, Frescos, should express the composer's intention to depict, despite the fact that it is not a work with a particular programme, four musical pictures of a rather dramatic nature. In 2000 the composer carried out a slight revision of his score, which is included in this edition.
