"Free Spirit" is one of my first compositions in which I began introducing "ethnic" musical material. It is based on a story I mysteriously came up with: a daughter, being a free spirit in heart, desires to fly away from her family, and this desire of hers, creates a clash between her and her parents. The characters of the three members of the family – father, mother, and daughter, alternate in the composition. While the mother appears to be more sentimental, the father expresses a strict and absolute attidute towards his daughter's decision. A decision that seems to be final since, at the end of the piece, she flies away through the "fading out" musical ending.
