Composed by Joshua Dawson. Contemporary,Praise & Worship. Score. 9 pages. Joshua Dawson #5030499. Published by Joshua Dawson (A0.1029545).

Four harmonically luscious piano variations composed in 2018 on the hymn "Now the Day is Over" by Sabine Baring-Gould (1834-1924).

Motifs from this simple, eight-bar hymn are manipulated and integrated throughout the variations. Each variation is essentially tonal, with some chromaticism and modality, and preserves the original harmonic structure of the theme. The final variation ventures further.

The piece is not outwardly challenging or virtuosic, but does contain some complex voicing issues and innovative piano writing, both of which will require a thoughtful, sensitive pianistic touch.

Duration c. 5 minutes.
