The first prelude exhibits baroque characteristics, The 2nd may resemble some of the early work from the Second Viennese School. The 3rd prelude is much more agitated and dissonant while the 4th contrasts it with more dreamy and impressionistic textures. The 5th and final prelude pays homage to Brahms and ends with a feeling of optimism.
