Derek Hasted writes "This charming suite, or rather the first movement, has become incredibly well-known in the UK as the theme tune to the TV series of the same name - one of the UK’s fines comedies.
Not many people know that there are variations on the theme that opens and closes the program, and this arrangement has been transcribed from the original soundtrack then tailored to fit three guitars.
The entire suite comprises five pieces, of which the first and last are ostensibly the same. As well as a “scene-setting”, creepy sounding Interlude, there are two variations which are quite delightful and deserving to be better known.
Fingering is minimal, but the rich chromatic harmonies will require position shifts here and there.
The metronome markings are broadly based on the original soundtrack, but a more relaxed pace works well too.
