The driving rhythms of the opening D minor theme portray a falcon on the hunt, followed by a section in 3/4 featuring a rhythmic pulse that depicts the strong wing beats of a falcon's flight pattern. A major motif introduced in the Coda brings this work to a majestic close. Each set includes three copies of the 3rd Violin/Viola T.C. part and optional parts for piano and percussion (2 players).
