British hymn traditionally associated with the maritime armed services, written in 1860. Based on Psalm 107, the text describes the dangers seafarers faced when sailing the ocean.  In the late 19th century, the Royal Navy and the US Navy adopted this hymn as well as other US & UK branches of the armed services such as Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, the British Army, the United States Coast Guard and the United States Marine Corps. Other titles for this hymn include:  Hymn of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, the Royal Navy Hymn, the United States Navy Hymn.
