Tiquicia is the traditional name for Costa Rica, the land  of the "ticos," and my homeland. "Scenes from Tiquicia" collects ten images that represent memories I have of the country where I grew up. They are  dedicated to beginner-level apprentice pianists, in order to introduce them not only to the elements of the Costa Rican musical tradition but also to other aspects of the national culture.
The collection gathers ten short pieces, featuring several traditional rythms such as tambito, calipso, bolero, jota and pasillo, among others.
1. El pizote (The coati)
2. El Parque de los Mangos (Mango Park)
3. Una jarra de aguadulce (A jar of aguadulce)
4. La procesión del Nazareno (The procession of the Nazarene)
5. Plantintá (Plantain-tart)
6. Playas de doña Ana (Mrs. Ana´s beach)
7. Tarde de octubre (A rainy October afternoon)
8. Tanelas de Bagaces (Tanelas from Bagaces)
9. La giganta (The giant woman)
10. Una piña´e tamales (A pair of tamales)
It includes a guide with translation of titles and a short explanation of each piece.

Lovely, fun and well thought-out
Wonderful original pieces, with just the right amount of challenge for a beginner pianist (young or old!). Each piece is a lovely vignette on Costa Rican themes, like animals, parks, villages, traditions and even food. Highly recommended.
