Beginning slowly and mysteriously, this strong Sean O' Loughlin composition turns bold and striking. It will give your beginning group a full sound, even with limited resources.
Enchanted Village is a dramatic work for string orchestra. The piece was commissioned by the Manhattan Beach Elementary Honor Ensembles in Manhattan Beach, California, Dawn Farmer and Dan Mollick, directors. The piece is very accessible to the developing ensemble. There are some nice teaching opportunities for both legato and marcato playing.The music starts out ominous and foreboding. Make sure to connect the notes so there are no gaps in the sound. The fast section at m. 11 should be full of energy and excitement. A little stress on the articulation will keep the music moving forward.The legato style returns at m. 28. Make the passage as smooth as possible. Overexaggerate the dynamics for the most musical effect. The build-up starting at m. 44 should be very dramatic. The marcato style comes back at m. 51 and should be aggressive all the way to the resounding end.
