Wartburg College commissioned the recording and production of "Ein feste Burg" to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Dobson Organ. Installed in 1996, the 2-manual, 32 rank, tracker action organ resides at the chapel on their campus in Waverly, Iowa. Performed by Dr. Karen Black, the Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor of Organ, the album features repertoire that celebrates the heritage of Wartburg College as an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and as a college founded by German immigrants. While some included works are from historic German composers such as J. S. Bach and Telemann, others demonstrate the organ as an instrument for the 21st century.
