Eclipse is an easy-to-learn rock-style tune that will energize your orchestra and introduce them to improvisation in a fun setting! With a flexible score including optional Violin II, Piano, and Drum Set, your students can achieve a big, impressive sound. All sections get a chance to shine and optional glissandi will move your students out of first position, if they are ready. The improv section includes a notated solo option in every part, while the rest of the orchestra vamps in the background. This section can be repeated as many times as needed, and students have the opportunity to improv their own solo. A confidence-building showstopper! The marked glissandi are optional and may be omitted, used as a simple slight change in pitch, or performed as a full glissando with shifting, depending on student ability. In addition, teachers may want to add slurs between distinct notes with a glissando between the two. The bow stroke for this piece is a heavy marcato - most successful in the lower part of the bow. Students are encouraged to experiment with improvised solos using notes from the opening measure.
