Aus der Werkbeschreibung des Komponisten: Ecce Homines sehe ich als eine labyrinthische Fortsetzung meines Zweiten Streichquartetts ...von Zeit zu Zeit... (1984/85) und des Streichtrios Des Dichters Pflug (1989), wobei die Quintettbesetzung grundsatzlich der Triobesetzung naher zu stehen scheint als der Quartettkomposition. Im Zweiten Streichquartett erreichte meine Arbeit mit vierteltonigen Intervallstrukturen, die ich Mitte der sechziger Jahre begonnen hatte, einen Kulminationspunkt; das Trio war das erste kunstlerische Produkt meiner Auseinandersetzung mit Dritteltonigkeit. Im Streichquintett bringe ich diese beiden Welten nicht nur in unmittelbare gegenseitige Beruhrung, sondern lose damit auch eine sanfte Konfrontation ihrer immanenten Konsequenzen aus.
