Published by RKPiper (A0.1024239).Driving Up The Coast is based on the Indian scale Raga Yaman as played by sitar and tabla. I have westernized the ensemble by using guitar for sitar glissandi, cello for the drone and bongos for the tabla. Melody and drone parts interchange between guitar and cello throughout the composition. I also used the Indian alap-jor-jhala-gat as a model for overall form.
