Divertimento is a musical genre primarily from the 18th century and is often lighthearted in mood. Diverimenti were usually performed at social functions. Mozart wrote several types of divertimenti. His original instrumentation for Divertimento in B flat KV App. 227 included 2 clarinets, 2 horns, 2 bassoons and double bass. This arrangement is for SATB or AATB Saxophone Quartet. Had saxophones existed in Mozart's day he would surely have incorporated them into his instrumental palate, particularly in the case of the divertimenti which were written mainly as entertaining music to be played during or after dinner.
