Dido's Lament ("When I am laid in earth") is the closing aria from the opera Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell to a libretto by Nahum Tate.
This masterfully crafted piece by Purcell describes the "apocalytpic romance" between the titled characters. Famous for the repeated chromatic bass, the tensions and resolution of the harmony produced by accompanying parts with the melancholic melody line flowing above, combine perfectly for a simple and emotive brass quintet arrangment to perhaps bring something different to a programme.
