Published by davekenneymusic (A0.1404030).Desert Carnival is a challenging work for soprano saxophone and piano and was inspired by 1. Burning Man festival 2. Chick Corea’s exciting piece “Cappuccino” with Joe Farrell on soprano, amazing energy. While I have never been to a Burning Man festival I love the pictures and concepts of it, very visual and expressive. In fact in my work the opening theme on soprano is developed to represent a person walking and experiencing each part of the festival. Chick’s work is pure passion and I imbued this attribute into Desert Carnival.
Also I used the piano and saxophone as equal partners, this is not a piano part in the background supporting the sax but is an intricate part of the work. This is a dialogue between the two instruments.
Finally I am happy to announce that Desert Carnival will be recorded by the amazing soprano saxophonist Nicholas May you should check him out.
