The Beringer Exercises are meant for continued study over a long period. Supervised work with an experienced teacher is a good idea. This is an old publication, so the printing is not ideal, but also, is not greatly necessary. Most exercises are printed out in the key of C Major, then the pianist refers to a modulatory example that guides him through the pattern to cover every possible major and minor key, so reading is not a major part of this work. On the contrary, the pianist picks up skill in playing in all keys, so the payoff is huge. The only exercises I have used that would be more comprehensive than Beringer are the Liszt Exercises. Beringer himself also refers the pianist to the Kullak Octave School for study of octaves. I highly endorse the Bering Exercises for the motivated student.
