A "cronopio" is a character archetype created by surrealist Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. They are naive and idealistic, disorganized, unconventional and sensitive creatures.
In this Waltz, the Cronopio is distressed because the entire world has somehow shifted and all the belongings in his little home are askew, causing him to feel lost and helpless because he no longer understands a place that once brought him so much warmth and comfort.
